Lid Keeper is deliberately conservative. Anything unexpected — a thermal event, low battery, a missed heartbeat, a state it can't verify — points the Mac straight back to ordinary lid sleep and Apple's own fan control.

  • Install, update and uninstall all finish with closed-lid sleep verified back to normal.
  • The keep-awake lease lasts twelve seconds. A separate watchdog process expires it if the main helper goes quiet.
  • Serious or critical thermal pressure restores normal sleep. A closed-lid stop also asks the system to sleep directly.
  • 5% battery unplugged, a 45-second missed heartbeat, or failing telemetry: the Mac sleeps.
  • Fan speed is never touched. There is no manual mode, no RPM target, no curve — only Apple automatic.
  • Engaging is refused unless the watchdog, lid monitor and power monitor are all ready.

Does Lid Keeper need an external display or a power adapter?
No. macOS clamshell mode needs both a display and power. Lid Keeper needs neither: flip the switch, close the lid, and the Mac keeps running — on battery or on power.
Will it overheat my MacBook?
